Open our eyes to the light of Your wisdom

We took a bit longer of a summer break than we had intended here at HKOA, but it was a much needed rest after our year of hard work!  We pray that your summer was every bit as soul-filling, whether you get that with plenty of activity, or with quiet and rest – or perhaps a healthy combination of the two!  We’ll be starting up our regular meetings again as of Wednesday, September 17th.  If you’d like to attend, either in person or via zoom, please reach out to us at admin@heavenlykingacademy.ca for the details.

With children returning to school this week, we wanted to extend our prayers for a blessed school year, for both students and teachers, whether you are in school or at home.  Know that your work is among the most important we have in this world!  As St John Chrysostom writes on educating children, “We must reinforce this image of the Heavenly King and restore the likeness of God.  This is our duty that we can expect to be rewarded for in the future.”  How fitting this quote is, for all of us supporters of the Heavenly King academy-to-be!  Until we can participate in this work with our own school, let us pray fervently for our teachers and students as they are brought up in the image of Christ.

For those homeschooling families reading this, HKOA is continuing to support the co-op we began last year!  If you would like to participate in the bi-weekly meet ups that will begin in October, you are most welcome.  Send a message to Elissa at admin@heavenlykingacademy.ca with the names and ages of the children that will be attending.

Whether you are a student or a teacher, the following prayers are beautiful – and can be adapted for those of us who work in other fields as well:

Prayer Before Study

Most blessed Lord, send the grace of your Holy Spirit on me to strengthen me that I may learn(share) well the subject I am about to study(teach) and by it become a better person for Your glory, the comfort of my family and the benefit of Your Church our nation.  Amen.

Prayer After Study

I thank You, Lord our God, that again on this occasion You have opened my eyes to the light of Your wisdom.  You have gladdened my heart with the knowledge of truth.  I entreat You, Lord, help me always to do Your will.  Bless my soul and body, my words and deeds.  Enable me to grow in grace, virtue and good habits, that Your name may be glorified, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever.  Amen.

With love in Christ,

The HKOA Team
